Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a distinct form of medicine that involves the manipulation of soft tissues of the body including; muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints.
Massage therapy is a clinically-oriented healthcare option that aids in alleviating the discomfort associated with everyday occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many acute and chronic pain conditions. RMTs work with a wide variety of patients in the treatment of illness, injury rehabilitation and disability.
Some of the duties are listed below:
- Assess Range of Motion (ROM) and muscle tests and purpose treatment plans
- Explain procedures, risks and benefits
- Administer massage techniques, treating soft tissues and joints of the body through soft tissue manipulation, relaxation techniques, hydrotherapy, trigger point therapy, joint pain and lower grade mobilizations, remedial exercise programs and client self-help programs
- Suggest home care instructions and provide information about techniques for further postural improvement and stretching, strengthening, relaxation and rehabilitative exercises
